Saima's Review: Skin Food Rice Mask Wash Off

Hello Hello ~^.^~

So while I was in the Skin Food store there were two exfoliating products which really caught my eye but I wasn't sure which one to purchase as they both seemed really awesome. These were the Black Sesame Hot Mask (which I have previously posted a review on) and the Rice Mask Wash Off. I ended up buying the full size product of the Rice Mask Wash Off as the sales advisor recommended it more for my skin type. (I do wish I had just purchased both of them now so that I can use them alternatively depending on what my skin needs on a particular day... well I guess there's always next time)

This review is on the:

~Skin Food Rice Mask Wash Off~

Product Description:

According to the back of the sample this is a "Mask with nutritious rice extracts for soft skin texture."

I checked the Skin Food website to see if there was any more information and this is what I found:

"A wash-off mask containing rice extract that moisturizes skin and brightens tone. With its texture of ground rice, it leaves skin bright, soft and lustrous."

The sales advisor also recommended this to me for the very reason that my skin was quite dull and lack luster at the time... and still is... definitely needs a lot of brightening.

So far I have only used the sample of this product and haven't actually started using the full size product yet but I do plan to start using it soon.

The product itself is a thin white mask with lots of grainy bits of rice. Here's the swatch that I took for you to see:

The product doesn't have an over powering scent... I would say it just smells quite fresh

I was advised to apply this onto my face after cleansing and drying. I made sure my face was thoroughly dry and then massaged the product into my skin in circular motions making sure to focus on any problem areas.

When applying this to my face it felt quite nourishing but it didn't feel as smooth as the Black Sesame Hot Mask. When massaging in circular motions I could feel that the rice grains are a bit more scrubby feeling than the sesame particles of the Black Sesame Hot Mask too and not as gentle but it's not in any way too harsh or uncomfortable. This product actually smells and feels very fresh.

After a while I noticed that my skin was feeling quite plump and lustrous... I was completely amazed as it just seemed to show results straight away without me even washing the product off first. I kept the mask on for 15 minutes and WOW! My skin looked much brighter and felt so soft and amazing!

Overall Impression:

I absolutely love this product... just as much as I love the Black Sesame Hot Mask ... they both give different results to the skin but both very good results in their own way and I would definitely purchase both of them again in future. If you haven't read my review on the Black Sesame Hot Mask then please do heehee :)

~ OhMaiScore = 9/10  ~

(I am going to give this a 9/10... just like I did for the Black Sesame Hot Mask because I really can't compare the two in terms of which I might prefer... as always, my opinion may change in future after using this product regularly, so the score might increase to a 10 or maybe even decrease.)

*Notes: As I do have the full size product I will be updating this review once I have used it quite a few times so that I can give you more of a clear account as to how beneficial and effective this is for my skin in the long run.

*Disclaimer: I purchased this product for my own personal use. Everything written above is my own personal opinion of the product. I am not affiliated with any company and have not been paid to write reviews.

Saima's Review: Skin Food Watery Berry Range

Hey Guys,

I recently posted about some products and samples that I got when I went to Malaysia and I felt like something was missing... turns out that I completely missed out one of my sample sets:

~ The Skin Food Watery Berry Range Sample Set ~

(It was hiding in between other samples in my sample drawer hahaa)

So the lady in the Skin Food store was telling me about both the Watery Berry Range and the Omija Whitening Range and I was intrigued by both so she gave me a few samples so that I can try them at home to see which I prefer.

(I will be reviewing the Omija Whitening Range samples in a separate post)

Sample Set Contents:

The Watery Berry samples were neatly packed together in a clear packaging, and the sales advisor told me to use them in the order that they were packed in, which is:

1) Skin Food Watery Berry Toner

2) Skin Food Watery Berry Serum

3) Skin Food Watery Berry Emulsion

4) Skin Food Watery Berry Blending Cream

The back of the samples are all in Korean so I had to check the Skin Food website to know more about each product and how to use it.

1) Skin Food Watery Berry Toner

Product Description:

According to the Skin Food website this toner is:

"A dewy moisture toner that promotes soft, glowing skin with berry extracts and hyaluronic acid."

Skin Food also explains the benefits of the berry extracts and hyaluronic acid, and shares a short little story for each:

"Berries Story: Cloudberries, lingonberries, and raspberries from Lapland, a region famous for its Santa Claus Village, provide superior antioxidant properties.

Hyaluronic Acid Story: Hyaluronic acid holds up to 30 times its weight in water, transforming dry skin into a soft, glowing texture."

I wasn't able to take a swatch picture of the toner as it absorbs into the skin very quickly but it's pretty much the same watery consistency as other toners.

I don't like using a cotton pad when applying products (especially toners) as I feel like I am wasting a lot of the product... in my opinion it is much better to pour an ample amount into clean palms and pat/ smooth it over the face.

Anyways, after cleansing my skin I proceeded to use the toner which smells really good .... like fresh sweet berries but to be completely honest I wasn't very impressed with the product itself. Like I said above, the consistency is watery like a lot of other toners out there, which is fine, but once it was on my face it felt a little bit sticky and I really dislike having any sort of uncomfortable sticky feeling to my face. Not only the sticky feeling, but I noticed a slight bitter taste when I licked my lips. I think the only thing I really liked about this toner was the berry smell.

~ OhMaiScore = 4.5/10 ~

2) Skin Food Watery Berry Serum

Product Description:

According to the Skin Food website this serum is:

"A dewy moisture serum that promotes soft, glowing skin with berry extracts and hyaluronic acid."
(hhhmmm isn't that exactly what they said about the toner?)

After using the toner I applied the serum which is a clear gel like consistency... I managed to swatch this so I can show you guys what it looks like:

The product had quite a nice scent to it... same as the fresh sweet berry scent of the toner.

After reading what Skin Food say about the product, it made me think that it was just going to be the same as the toner, so I wasn't expecting anything good at all.

I smoothed the serum on to my face and to my surprise I actually liked it. It felt really light on the skin with no stickiness at all. My skin also felt very soft once it had all absorbed. The only downside is that it does have the same slight bitterness to it as the toner.
Will I buy the product in future? probably not as I'm not much of a serum person... but atleast it was better than the toner :)

~ OhMaiScore = 6/10 ~

3) Skin Food Watery Berry Emulsion

Product Description:

So once again, according to the Skin Food website this emulsion is:

"A dewy moisture emulsion that promotes soft, glowing skin with berry extracts and hyaluronic acid."

(yup just change one word each time ... haiiiiiii)

Here's the swatch that I took for you to see:

The emulsion also has the same scent as the toner and serum.

And again, not expecting much but there might be some hope for it as the serum did seem to be nice....

hhhmmm nah ... the emulsion was just ok for me ... not blah ... and not wow ... just ... ok.

The application was smooth but not as light as the serum, and the bitterness just seems to be building up after each product :(

~ OhMaiScore = 5.5/10 ~

4) Skin Food Watery Berry Blending Cream

Finally something interesting out of the whole sample pack.

Product Description:

For some reason this product is not listed on the official Skin Food website... no idea why as I haven't heard of it being discontinued or anything and I did see the actual product in the Skin Food store that I got the sample from.

I'm guessing they would just say the following anyway if it was on the website:

"A dewy moisture blending cream that promotes soft, glowing skin with berry extracts and hyaluronic acid." (LOL)

Anyway, jokes aside, I did actually remember the sales advisor saying that this cream should brighten and soften the skin while giving plenty of moisture, and something about blending the gel and cream parts together and applying it to the skin like you would a regular moisturiser.  She also said that it has to be a 2:1 ratio (the 2 being the gel and the 1 being the cream)

I assume the gel is for hydration and the cream is for nourishment, to give the skin some sort of complete long lasting moisture.

The product is a two part cream/gel which is meant to be mixed together before applying.

The cream is actually quite thick (I don't usually like thick creams) but it thins down slightly when mixed with the gel.

Once again, it smells the same as the rest of the range.

The application felt smooth/ hydrating to my skin and it smelt really fresh. It wasn't sticky or greasy in anyway but I do think the sample contained too much product for my face so it took quite some time to fully absorb into my skin, even after continuously massaging it in (I guess a little goes a long way)

I don't think the cream is amazing enough to repurchase but was nice for the one off use. The whole blending idea was interesting... a little time consuming but still fun if you're not in a rush.

Now for the downside... and this is a big downside... and I bet you know exactly what I'm going to say .... It is bitter! ... and don't get me wrong I'm not like tasting each product on purpose and definitely do not suggest consuming this or any other non edible product, but seriously... if a product accidentally gets on to your lips while massaging your face and after a while you subconsciously lick your lips ... it shouldn't.. and I mean it really shouldn't, have a bitter taste... and it certainly shouldn't get worse as you apply each of the products from the range... it's completely off putting.

~ OhMaiScore = 6/10 ~

Overall Impression:

I do really love Skin Food but this range was not for me, especially because of the whole bitter taste thing... they should really do something about that.

*Notes: You do not have to use the toner, serum, emulsion and cream all in one go and it's all down to personal preference and skin type. I would advise using a toner after cleansing and then just choosing either one of the serum, emulsion or cream depending on how much moisture your skin needs and also on your skin type.

If you have combination oily/ dehydrated skin which is prone to breakouts (like mine) I definitely do not recommend using all of them together, as I did notice quite a few break outs the next day ... too much for my poor skin to handle :(

*As I don't have the full size products of these samples I can't give a clear account as to how beneficial or how effective the products are over time. This is only a general review on one off use.

*Disclaimer: I received these free samples to try, after purchasing products for my own personal use. Everything written above is my own personal opinion of the product. I am not affiliated with any company and have not been paid to write reviews.

Saima's Review: Skin Food Honey Black Tea Jelly Foam

Hello Hello ~^.^~

Me again (Saima) ~~~

Shanzy has been a bit busy lately so I'm taking over the blogging side of OhMaiSS and hopefully you shall hear from her soon.

Over the past few days since my last post, I've tried a few more samples from Skin Food so that I know exactly what to buy again next time I go back to Malaysia.

Today I will be doing a review on:

~Skin Food Honey Black Tea Jelly Foam~

After giving away many of my samples (as I had four of each), I kept one or two for myself and I actually had two samples of this particular product.
Funnily enough my skin reacted differently the second time I used this, so I am actually confused about whether I like this product or not.

Product Description:

According to the back of the sample, Skin Food state that the product is "A foaming cleanser with honey and black tea extracts, with a firm jelly texture that leaves skin soft and supple"

Right... so this firm jelly texture is supposed to turn into a foam; I wanted to check if it actually does foam up and took pictures to show you guys:

So as you can see it does foam up but I did have to be quite vigorous about it and it wasn't anything truly amazing like a whole load of foamy bubbles (hahaa me and my high expectations)

Anyway the product looks and feels a lot like honey and it smells sweet too .. absolutely delicious ~

The product is quite runny and sticky feeling so you have to make sure that you lather it in to a foam quickly on to your face and neck otherwise it will be dripping everywhere (Yes this happened to me)... while massaging it into the skin it does feel very smooth and the stickiness disappears due to the foam.

  • Sample 1 ~
So the first time I used this I liked how moisturising and smooth it felt while massaging it into the skin, but I didn't get that thorough clean sort of feeling (probably because I have combination oily/dehydrated skin which leans more towards oily). It felt like one of those cleansers where I can't just use it on its own so I had to exfoliate my skin after.

  • Sample 2 ~
When I used the second sample, I was expecting to have the same results are the previous time... but no... this time the application was still smooth and hydrating but I could feel a slight stinging sensation (most probably because I had many breakouts which were already feeling sore). When I washed the foam off of my face the stinging reduced but I could still feel it around a few of the blemishes. My skin did actually feel thoroughly cleansed this time and slightly tight but not in a drying sort of way. Later that day I also noticed that the blemishes were drying up.

More Info:

I checked the Skin Food website to find out more about this product and why my skin reacted in such a way.
Here's the product description that is on their website:

"This mild and clear foam cleanser gel, enriched with a moisturizing honey extract and tea extracts that have an excellent exfoliating effect, is astringent and leaves skin feeling fresh and hydrated. Beta-glucan and NMF (Natural Moisturizing Factor) reduces skin dehydration after washing."

Now that completely explains the stinging sensation! I had no idea that this product has astringent and exfoliating properties as well as keeping the skin hydrated. It's actually meant to be perfect for my skin type so I have no idea why the first application wasn't as great as the second... maybe because it was something new for my skin so needed some time getting used to.

Overall Impression:

After using this a second time and then reading more about it, I am actually considering purchasing this again as it does seem to be quite a nice cleanser that could be beneficial for my skin type with regular use, however I did notice that Skin Food also have a bubble foam and a regular cleansing foam (both no jelly) version of this, so I want to try those and also cleansers from the other ranges first before deciding.

~ OhMaiScore = 7.5/10 ~

(My opinion might change after comparing it with the other two versions of this or after purchasing the full size and using it more often.)

*Notes: As I don't have the full size product of this sample I can't give a clear account as to how beneficial or how effective the product is over time. This is only a general review on one off use.

*Disclaimer: I received this free sample to try, after purchasing products for my own personal use. Everything written above is my own personal opinion of the product. I am not affiliated with any company and have not been paid to write reviews.

Saima's Review: Skin Food Black Sesame Hot Mask

Hey guys!

Saima here ~~

If you have read my previous post about all the products and samples I got from Malaysia then you will know for sure that I am spoilt for choice.

It is seriously very difficult choosing which product sample to try first when you have so many (Thank you Skin Food <3). A close friend of mine (fellow blogger 'ChuStyle') suggested that I do a lucky dip... (She did the same thing for herself as I gave her a lot of awesome samples and masks too)

So the lucky sample for today was:

~ Skin Food Black Sesame Hot Mask ~

Product Description:

According to the back of the sample, Skin Food state that "The mask opens up pores with a warm heat of salt and sugar powder and eliminates waste material in a rough skin affected by the accumulated keratin. It provides an amazing silkiness to the skin with nourishing black sesame extract."

Sounds intriguing right?.. I couldn't wait to try it for myself, so I opened the little sample packet, took a picture to show you guys how it looks and then applied it to my face.

The product is a clear grayish colour with small black scrubby particles which I assume is the black sesame.

It has a strong sesame smell but not the kind that most people would be used to in cooking, it's more of an earthy roasted sesame smell with a hint of sweetness (sorry guys it's kinda hard to describe hehe.)

Anyway, so I applied the product on to my face and massaged in circular motions, making sure to scrub away dead skin cells and excess sebum. The product glides on very smooth yet has a slight sticky honey like feel to it. I wouldn't exactly call it a "hot" mask, as it just feels pleasantly warm and only while massaging the skin.. as soon as I stopped massaging I really couldn't feel any heat at all. I like that the black sesame particles are not as coarse as some other exfoliators that I have tried in the past; they just gently exfoliate the skin without feeling uncomfortable. I kept the mask on for 5 minutes then rinsed my face with warm water.

Overall Impression:

In my opinion it does quite a good job in making the skin feel smooth and clean but I don't think it's at all necessary to always use this as a mask unless you really want to... if you are in a rush you could just simply exfoliate your skin with it an rinse away without waiting for 5 minutes and you will still get smooth nourished skin.

~ OhMaiScore = 9/10 ~

(I would have given it a 10/10 as I did really love it and now I'm kicking myself in the butt for not purchasing the full size while I was in Malaysia :( ... but today I'm giving it a 9 because I have only used the product once so I don't know yet how my skin would feel and look after using it regularly.)

*Note: As I don't have the full size product of this sample I can't give a clear account as to how beneficial or how effective this product is over time. This is only a general review on one off use.

*Disclaimer: I received this free sample to try, after purchasing products for my own personal use. Everything written above is my own personal opinion of the product. I am not affiliated with any company and have not been paid to write reviews.

Saima's Malaysia Beauty Haul

Hey Guys,

Saima here ~~

I recently went to Malaysia and came back with a whole suitcase full of awesome skincare goodies... OK let me rephrase that... I came back with a suitcase half full of products, a carry on case completely full of products and a backpack also full of products :/ (.. I admit it.. I have a bit of a problem when it comes to buying beauty products .. An addict of some sort~)

I went to Mahkota Parade in Malacca in hopes of finding a Sasa to go crazy shopper mode in ... and yes I found Sasa but instead of walking in, something else caught my attention ... Skin Food, Etude House, The Face Shop ~ OMG I was in heaven!!! Some of my favourite Korean brands all there in the same shopping centre! And they have their own stores!!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Skin Food

Skin Food was amazing! I honestly wanted to buy every product in store even the men's range (obviously not for myself haha)... The best thing was that after you pay for your products they give you a lot of free samples and I mean a lot!
So here are the products that I bought from Skin Food:

And here are the samples:

They gave me 4+ of each sample and also gave me 4 skin food calendars which have monthly vouchers to get more free samples (AWESOME!).. Ooh and they also gave me a few packs of Ang Pow (Red Envelopes) ~ because it was Chinese New Year ~

And of course I had to take a picture on Instagram of however many products I could fit on the floor (not all of them XD) :
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Etude House

Étude House was also very nice but I bought less products as I went a bit too crazy in SkinFood and had to consider luggage weight ~
Here are the products I bought:

Etude House were not as generous when it came to free samples, but here's what I got:

(They also gave me a calendar but I gave it away as a gift and forgot to take a picture)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TheFaceShop

So the next stop was TheFaceShop which is a little more expensive so I only brought the following three products:

No samples here just a free calendar because I spent over a certain amount of money.. Blah ~

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sasa

Finally I made my way back to Sasa and got what I was originally planning to buy... My favourite sheet masks and face scrub from Taiwan's My Beauty Diary!
Here they are:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jonker Walk Night Market

The shopping didn't end there guys... I went to the Jonker Walk night market and saw a lady selling sheet masks so like a moth to a flame I was drawn. Once again ..My Beauty Diary!!!.. but I did grab a few other brands too as you can see below:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I did have a bit of a panic as to how I would bring all these goodies back to London but when there's a will there's a way... Fit them wherever possible hahaa ~

Anyways after giving away a lot of  products, samples and Calendars as gifts for my friends and family I was left with this:

I will be trying them all one by one and hopefully post reviews on a few of my favourites... so watch this space ~^.^~

Peace out my lovelies ~ Saima
